Homburg Centre for Health and Wellness Halifax, NS
Inspiration for the Homburg Centre for Health and Wellness came from Saint Mary's ongoing dedication to the enhancement of student life and campus experience. The university's benefactor and friend, Dr. Richard Homburg, was the catalyst for this project, offering a major donation and shared vision for a healthy campus and healthy community.
The 24,000 SF addition and renovation to the existing "Tower" (sport and fitness) facility offered an opportunity to rejuvenate and rebrand this important campus building. The glass and masonry addition, with a modern entry canopy, re-orients circulation east-west to offer a spacious entry lobby for students, community, visiting sport teams, and group receptions. The dramatic two-storey space, with an abundance of natural light from its southern exposure, offers an uplifting and inspiring experience to students, staff, and guests. The ground floor features a 4500 SF two-storey community studio, an active living studio, a wellness studio, and expanded public washroom and locker facilities. The second floor features a classroom, multi-purpose room, VIP studio, large meeting room, offices for the Centre for the Study of Sport as well as for the Health and Integrated Wellness Centre, in addition to expanded space for Saint Mary's Hall of Fame Gallery.
