The Science building renewal project comprised the interior and exterior renovation of an existing 75,000 SF, 5 storey brick clad building originally constructed in the early 1970`s plus a new 5 storey addition of approximately 5,000 SF per floor and a new service penthouse.  It was a complex and demanding project undertaken in phases that allowed occupation of offices, teaching spaces and labs during construction.  DSRA Architects undertook extensive programming and space reallocation studies to determine expansion and renovation potential.  All strategies were costed including relocation of all faculty and students to existing temporary facilities and many design options considered to allow sequential construction and occupancy.  Internal renovations included replanning and refurbishing of the main laboratory and office spaces, as well as almost complete replacement of HVAC and electrical system.  The exterior was overclad with a new aluminum and glass curtain wall.
